Home Instructions for Your Root Canal

Please click here to print the instructions below:

»Avoid eating until the numbness is gone, usually within 2-4 hours. This will prevent accidentally biting your lip, tongue, or cheek.

»There may be sensitivity to heat, cold and pressure in the first week -this is normal.

»Your mouth may be sore after the anesthetic wears off. Gently rinsing with warm salt water three or more times a day helps reduce discomfort. (1/2 tsp salt in 1 cup warm water).

»If there is pain, take aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen as needed. Call our office if the pain persists or is more than these medications can handle. If an antibiotic is prescribed, take it for the prescribed length of time, even if symptoms are gone.

»A permanent crown is needed following root canal therapy to prevent any breakage in the newly treated tooth.

»We will call you the next business day to be sure all is well. However, call us immediately if you have questions or concerns.
